About Dr. Barbara Woods
Empowering Agents of Change Through the Science of Resilience
Hello, I’m Dr. Barbara Woods. I guide therapists, educators, and parents in deciphering the enigma of a child's behavior. By harnessing the transformative power of resilience and relationship, I aim to make you an agent of change in the lives of children and families navigating trauma and attachment difficulties.
Professional Journey: Merging Clinical Experience with Neuroscience
I operate Willow’s Bend Counselling Centre, Inc., located in the heart of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. My Bernedoodle, Bjorn, is always right there to help with affection, attention, and a few silly antics! I've specialized in working with children, teens, and their families who have undergone trauma or attachment disruptions. My clinical work is enriched by training and mentoring other clinicians in my community of over 7,500 psychotherapists. I integrate insights from disciplines like Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory, Positive Psychology, and Mindful Parenting—foundational skills that have helped me build a seven-figure practice even in a small, rural community.
Personal Journey: From Witness to Healer
My expertise in trauma didn't begin in graduate school; it started during my own childhood on a gravel road in 4th Grade. I witnessed an attempted abduction and could identify the individual responsible. During that school year, we were frequently taken out of school to meet with police and attend line-ups. This life-altering experience, coupled with the resilience I developed, informs my unique, non-textbook approach to trauma therapy. As I guide you along your professional journey, my goal is to arm you with actionable skills that facilitate personal and familial resilience—turning chaos into beauty and stress into peacefulness.
Your Journey: Building Resilience, Peace, and Prosperity
My vision extends beyond the counseling room; it's about equipping you with the latest neuroscience-based strategies for supporting your clients to transform trauma, healing attachment, and build connections and resilience. I want clients to not just survive, but thrive—in your practice, in your families, and in your communities.
By joining this compassionate community, you gain more than just a set of skills; you get to be part of a transformative movement. Become an agent of change, capable of impacting lives in a brave, authentic, and magnificent way. It's not just about learning; it's about evolving.
